3 Ways to Get Ready for Holiday Travel
by Kevin Smith AuthorThe busy holiday travel season is about to begin. Before you
hit the highway or board your flight here are some ways to prepare for a winter
vacation.
Prepare the Transportation
If you plan to drive to your destination it is a good idea
to take some time and prepare your vehicle for a long drive. An oil change,
tire rotations, or new windshield wiper blades are all helpful. Check the
heater in your car to make sure it is working properly and keep extra blankets
in-tow. You should also check the fluids in your car to make sure they are at
the appropriate levels including brake, windshield, coolant or anti-freeze, and
transmission. Have an emergency kit in your car in case you get stranded, and
make sure the tires have good tread and are properly inflated.
If you are flying or taking a cruise this winter it helps to
get your documentation in order. Verify your check-in, arrival, and departure
times, make sure your passport, currency, cell phone plan, and insurance are
all ready if you leave the country, and have a backup plan if weather prevents
you from reaching a connecting flight.
Prepare the House
Go through the fridge and get rid of any food items that
could spoil or smell while you are away and take out the trash before you
leave. Unplug any unnecessary technology like computers, TVs, laptops, etc. If
you have a Christmas tree it is best to leave the lights off and unplugged
while you are away.
Keep the heat running in the home to prevent pipes from
freezing, and set the thermostat to a constant 62-64 degrees. If you have a
family member or neighbor nearby ask them to periodically check on the home
while you are away. Make sure all doors and windows are locked and the curtains
shut. Motion sensor lights, alarm systems, and security cameras are good safety
measures to use as well.
Prepare Yourself
Most importantly you will want to prepare yourself. Take
time to rest and eat well so your immune system will be healthy. Visit a walk
in clinic travel vaccine in Suwanee, GA, to get a flu shot before being exposed
to germs and get into the habit of washing your hands frequently while traveling.
A walk in clinic travel vaccine in Suwanee, GA, is a good idea whether you drive or fly and you should talk with your doctor to make sure your medications are well supplied before you, or the doctor’s office go on winter vacation.
