3 Tips for Choosing the Right Granite Countertop

by Kevin Smith Author

Granite is a popular choice for kitchen countertops. It's very durable, which means it can handle years of constant use without breaking. It's also resistant to high temperatures, so it'll remain unscathed even if you place hot cookware on its surface. To top it all off, it's a great way to add a touch of elegance and class to any space.

It's no question that granite stone has many excellent properties that make it a great fit for your kitchen. But, since there are many types and styles you can choose from, how exactly do you find the right one? Here are a few tips you may follow.

Look at Your Color Palette

Before you choose a slab, you should have a color palette picked out for your kitchen. This will serve as a guide for the overall style of the room and make sure the design elements will look good together.

Check out your color palette and try to find materials that fall within the same range of hues. Unless you're going for a totally mismatched style, don't pick a type of granite that doesn't fit your pre-selected shades. Its appearance may clash with the rest of the room.

Consider the Size of the Space

Your floor space will determine whether you should choose a lighter or darker granite piece. For areas that are pretty small, select a fairer shade, as this really makes it appear more open and prevent it from feeling too cramped. It's also advisable for rooms that don't get much natural light and have the tendency to look closed off and restricted.

Darker shades are great for larger rooms. Coupled with a light background, they create a visually dramatic effect because of the stark contrast.

Carefully Pick Out the Grain Pattern

Granite stones come with different veining patterns. Some have several contrasting colors that make them appear very striking, while others have softer grains that more or less blend into each other.

If you want your countertop to be the main design accent of your kitchen, choose a speckled or marbled pattern with bold and distinct hues. But, for a slab that can blend in with the rest of the space, get one that has a more solid and cohesive grain.

These are just some tips you may follow to help you choose the right material for your kitchen. Remember them, so you'll have an easier time shopping for granite countertop slabs for wholesale in Kennesaw
