2 Affordable Ways to Flip a House

by Kevin Smith Author

You thought the yellow and green paint was cute when you were moving into your current home. The shower door was sold to you as convenient at first. Maybe you’re trying to sell your home. Maybe you just bought the place. Whatever the reason, you’re now living in a home that looks like it could use a lot of work.

Flipping a home is about finding ways to transform its appearance. There are lots of ways to do this affordably, but it’s more than just throwing up a gilded exterior. In the back of your mind, you want to remember that the work you’re doing is adding tangible value. Mowing the lawn and using air fresheners are helpful for first impressions, but won’t add value to the home.

Every home is different and every home will require its own personal touch. That said, these are two affordable ways you can transform almost any home.

Something Minimalistic

Check out Pinterest some time. Watch a YouTuber. Follow some home design bloggers on social media. You will notice one thing is trending and has been trending for a while – minimalistic color design.

Minimalistic doesn’t just mean a sparse interior. It’s about using white, grey, and black for most of the room. You will want to paint the walls in a grey that’s as close to white as possible. Furniture should be a darker shade of grey. Lastly, use black for a few items around to room, like a bookshelf or end table. Change out your old light panels for white ones if they’re not already.

You want to add bright accents of color where appropriate.  Yellow pillow and coffee table decorations, a bright colored wreath, a bright colored refrigerator, you can still get creative with color. It’s about creating a solid and transformable canvas with your furniture.

A fresh coat of near-white paint can make your home look cleaner and better light. It also means that for the people moving in it will be easier to match their furniture to the décor. Plus, this design is trendy and will make staging your home for potential buyers much easier.

Remodel the Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most critical rooms of your home to get right. People will often base their entire homebuying decision on what it looks like. After all, it’s where we spend every morning of every day getting ready.

You will want to get rid of anything that you think might not be appreciated by prospective home buyers. Use the above tactic and make the bathroom minimalistic in color. Lose any nautical themed decorations and replace your towels with a brand new white set. Make sure the fixtures are clean and that they match each other. You don’t want a bronze towel rack and a silver faucet.

Let’s say your existing bathroom isn’t so bad already. Take a closer look at the toilet and the shower. Often there is something that can be worked on. Shower doors are difficult to clean and inconvenient. Rusty toilets might be clean but look gross. In most cases, it’s easier to simply replace the toilet or the shower. A good bathtub and shower combo is both attractive and convenient. For a prospective home buyer, knowing that they will be using a brand-new toilet or shower can make a world of difference.

Whether you’re selling your home or just giving it a makeover, flipping your house is a challenging but rewarding task. You can freshen things up with a new bathtub and shower combo for your bathroom or a new coat of light grey paint. How involved you want to get and how much money you want to spend is up to you.
