1982 Ford Capri Discovered In The Murky Waters Of Nottinghamshire Lake

Car enthusiasts from Utah to the East Coast have genuine respect for the classics. Furthermore, modern engines and body styles would not be what they are today if older generations hadn’t paved the way for future creativity and innovation.

A restored classic vehicle, such as a T-Model Ford or early 1960s Mustang, can be worth more sentimentally and financially than the hottest new sports cars at various dealers. However, a classic, collectable Mustang typically can’t be purchased from local Utah dealers; it takes time, determination and usually a good chunk of change to acquire something so rare.

Overall, a good find can come about when it’s least expected. On July 8, a rare 1982 Ford Capri was discovered in the depths of Nottinghamshire Lake in England. The Nottinghamshire police report that the algae-covered blue Capri was last taxed in 1993, so it could have been submerged underwater for over 20 years.

Local police also stated that they’ve never seen a car end up in the lake as long as they’ve been on duty. Although no one, including the police, is quite sure why the vehicle ended up where it did, some speculators insist that the eel-infested Ford was stolen and dumped into the lake many years ago.

“We turned up for a dive training day, but as so often happens, we got a call, and it was an unusual one,” said Detective Sergeant Sawdon.

“When we first found it in the gloom all we could say was that it was a large dark saloon. It was a surprise to find it was an old Ford Capri that was actually blue underneath all the growth on it,” Sawdon said.

Although the vehicle would take some time and effort to restore, car enthusiasts suggest that the vehicle could be worth nearly 15,000 euros if it is fixed up because it’s a classic car. The Ford Capri is a coupe that was designed and built by Ford Europe from 1969 to1986, which is why it is a rare find in Utah and throughout North America. Philip T. Clark, who is best-known for being an original designer for the Mustang, was also the main designer for the Capri.

The Capri has a variety of engine options, but the primary motor is the powerful Cologne V6. After Ford Europe stopped producing this vehicle, they replaced it on the European market in 1992 with the second-generation Probe.

If you’re interested in seeing what cars ford contemporarily offers, you can test-drive their vehicles at various dealers. While you might not be able to find a 1982 Capri, Ford dealers are located throughout Utah and nationwide for your convenience.
