Who Ate My Article?
by Neville Dinning Grey Nomad Working Online
This is not the article that I wrote to publish here.
That one disappeared into the Internet Void after it had been written, never to be seen again. And I have been given a reminder of a useful strategy to prevent it happening again.
So what happened?
I had a great idea for an article, and typed it up in the form for writing articles here at APSense. It had been edited and formatted and I clicked the Submit It button.
Nothing. Just a pause and then the dreaded message that my browser could not open the page.
Refreshing and using the Back button produced nothing but a blank Write an Article form!
There was no sign of it being published, so it was back to where I started.
But next time, write it up in Notebook first and then copy and paste into the form. Then format it before Submitting it.
Valuable lesson learned.
Maybe the article will be rewritten some time later.

Local Market ConsultantThis is a lesson we all learn by hard experience. So much can go wrong when we send our words of contribution into the ether to be published. I go with Neville's action instead of Philippe. While in writing mode, sometimes my many research windows for the evolving article makes Firefox lock up. So I have to restart Firefox and also the article. Time for a new Rev Page on the free software faster that Word Jan 14th 2011 02:43 |

Grey Nomad Working OnlineTony, the trouble is some of us have to learn the lesson many times before it takes hold. I think I'll stick with drafting in notepad and then Copy and Paste into the APSense form for submitting after formatting. Can't wait for the RevPage Tony. Jan 14th 2011 03:34 |

Video Champions, APSense MentorOk, ok, by all means, use Open Office, it's free, and it allows you to use formatting as well a Word, but don't forget to edit the article to replace the ? with ' after submitting. :) Jan 14th 2011 05:45 |

TE Owner & Graphic DesignerLOL It happend for me for real when i was young and ad school. I got bach my essay which was rated 10 by the teacher. This is seldom since the highest rate possible. LOL I went to search my mother, eager to show it to her. By the time I got back pur puppy dog ate it. I write larger articles in gold old frontpage, than copy and paste. @andriy reported for spam Jan 14th 2011 07:54 |

Internet MarketerI have faced this before. It is not pleasant and I have lost some valuable thought in the past. We should not let this happen to us again. Jan 14th 2011 08:28 |

If you posted it yesterday the update may have eaten it. I was online when the update happened and until it was completed the error messages were fast and furious. However I learned a long time ago the hard way to do all my stuff on Word etc and then paste it her. Yes I do have to go back and edit it after posting but that is a small price to pay to avoid losing an entire article! Jan 14th 2011 08:44 |

CEO - ZEST GirlsI think you must write your article in a text editor and then save it first. Then you can paste it in the desired web site. Jan 14th 2011 22:25 |

HiyaAbsolutely Neville Notepad great suggestion. Notepad is great because in the settings you can render the text unformatted, therefore copying and pasting has now traces of typeset from home computer which can sometimes change the typing in other browsers and add strange column widths, its just getting into a routine of copying and pasting, thanks Neville. I have a better suggestion for you Nev : write it here, then CTRL-A and CTRL-C, then paste in notepad, or in Word if you have some formatting. Then you submit. :)
