Branding yourself is better with your own name

by Philippe Moisan Tutorial videos, sci-fi writer
When you register at a Social Marketing site, use your name as the Display name. Else, it will be forgettable, and in many cases, you won't taken seriously by serious marketers.

Here are examples of forgettable Display names :
  • successmoney : what, you think you're the only one who can teach us that ?
  • mistermoney : looking greedy is not the WTG
  • jewelofthenile : let your deeds show us you are a gem
  • promoter : yeah right, the other members are here only to watch your parade
  • best system : we've heard that before
  • i know better : never seen that example, but you never know :)
  • 4wealth : we will all lose our shirt if we don't listen to you
  • bizman : uh, sir, we are all here to build our businesses

I could fill pages and pages of examples as ridiculous as these.

All these display names are little variations or real ones I've seen on different sites.

BTW, using as profile picture something like :
  • nature
  • a baby
  • a drawing
  • no picture at all, i.e. totally white, don't laugh, I've seen that here
  • Mickey Mouse
  • Brad Pitt
  • A drop dead gorgeous girl named Jonathan ( I know Louise, I wrote that one before, your LOL reaction has imprinted it in my mind )
  • a car
  • a plane
  • clouds
  • a fish

Well, you get the idea.

It's better to use a real picture of you, AND use that same picture on every site, people will recognize you and send contact requests.

BTW, that last tip applies to the Display name too.

Well,it clear that a brand name is an image of who you are, what you do and so much more that can be gotten from you.I do think it is a great idea if John remains John, and moreover, better the devil you know than the angel you don't know.
Hence, customers tend to relate and go for those who they are sure of!

That it is true if you want people to know you and to be able to trust you in what you are doing. I also know sometimes people will not join if not real identification. It makes you authentic and honest.

100% right on the money Philippe.

It's all about the fact that we humans want to recognize things, in order to settle our fears of the inknown.

Being a squirrel names successwizard one place, and a rainbow called golddigger another place does NOT do this for your brand.

This article can certainly be used by a LOT of people doing online marketing.

I learned all this the hard way Allan, it say a lot to people when the pic you decide to display is a pic of your pet. The same with branding your name.

I agree with you Philippe. I always agree with you.

For instance,
brand name - bronnamdi

email address - bronnamdi@bro....di

domain [forwarded for now] - bronnamdi.com

Most affiliate program ids - bronnamdi (unless where somebody beats me to it).

Picture? Almost the same every time.

When I started adding my name and photo on forums my referral rate increased. Self branding works.

Lets not forget Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp and the singer Jewel who have all been spotted around here.

I use my name but I also use my opportunity thus pplcheryl63. It also happens to be my website shortened. However I use the pplcheryl63 as my standard display name on all business networks.

It is amazing some of the things people come up with... It just tells me that they are not serious about business. I went one step further in branding my name... most all over the internet know me as DA. Very few know that those are my initials for David Alan.

I also try branding my username. Anytime I signup for a new program, I use modernadvantage. I use modern or advantage in most all my websites, so it sort of brands them for me.

Branding is the one thing you can do on the internet to build trust in your product or services. Use it to your advantage and you will reap the rewards :)

@MarketClick, you really want me to answer ? :)

Cheryl, I deliberately wrote modified versions of the names I had seen. Where do you think jewelofthenile comes from ? :)
