Top 10 Tips On Using Photoshop For Web Design

by PLAVEB Corporation Web Design & Development Company
Using Photoshop to design your website is definitely something that will have a great effect on the end result. Here are 10 basic tips to make it easy for you and get a beautiful, clean, professional web design as you end up with your finished site.

  1. Give yourself a decent canvas to start off with. A height somewhere around 900-1000 pixels and a width of about 960 pixels are usually okay to give a start.
  2. Use a browser-compatible font and avoid using images for anything other than the logo.
  3. Use folders and layers to separate various elements on the page and name all your layers.
  4. Use crisp anti-aliasing on all your text.
  5. Always go for jpg, at full quality, when it comes to sending off your design to the client.
  6. Unless there is a specification made by your client on the text he wants on the page, use the lorem ipsum passage to fill in any paragraphs on your page, so that you don't waste your time thinking up fake content to go in the gaps. Make the client aware, however, that that's what it is and that you're not expecting to put that on his final web design!
  7. Blending options can be used to produce great effects on the various elements of your page, but be sure not to use the defaults and not to overuse them.
  8. Add some nice effects, like drop shadow, outer glow, inner glow, or something similar, to your images.
  9. When it comes to slicing up your images, use the 'Save for Web' feature.
  10. Always plan ahead. Whatever you design in Photoshop should actually be possible to code up later on.
