Is Social Media Marketing about "hi", "ok", "thumbs up", "I like your (fill in the blank )"

by Philippe Moisan Tutorial videos, sci-fi writer
I have registered to some some social media sites dedicated to Network and Internet Marketing.

In some cases, the whole point of these sites is to post as much as possible. Good content and info is irrelevant. The members are expected to get as many points as possible.

I have seen a lot of "Hi", "Keep on blomming", "thumbs up", "ok", "nice", "Yes ! I got 10 Useless Posting points". With people responding "Congrats on getting those UP points !"

Or, in other cases, on sites where it's required to do site surfing, again tons of "nice", "thumbs up", "ok", great splash page", "great ad". What do these people expect ? That we will put stars for comments such as those ? If you don't have anything to say, why do you fill the site with such useless comments ? Do you really get something out of that ?

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I don't get how the game is played. But I can't find it in myself to do useless posts.

Sorry for the rant. Please do comment whether you agree or not.

Thanks !

Yes i do agree with you. However, I will only comment on content i see as likable or informative. I beleive that is not about the quantity but the quality that will bring the readers and viewers to your content. And as far as the comments some of them tend to be off the cuff. I am very well aquanted wth my delete button. its a wonderful function.

Some people just itch for so much attention that they forget what "delete permenantly" means.

Maybe you just need to go gold, sorry J-K
Don't really feel a personal connection when you're talking to human auto-responders?

"Human auto-responders" I like that ! :) I love to play with words, you've given me a new and reusable expression. At least, it's new to me.

I totally agree, if you don't have any thing useful to say: shut up. Of course it is ok to post that you like or dislike a site but at least say why fe. I like it because of good info, i like the use of colors or whatever. I do think it is worthwhile to post comments that say something. When I see someone posting constructive comments I mostly end up checking out this person and see what he has to offer,

It is definitely a positive sign when someone takes the time to write something that shows the person took the time to read or check things out, it could be the beginning of a worthwhile relationship.

Oh Hello there! I didn't realize you were sitting at the other end of the same rowboat Phillipe!

I agree with you whole heartedly about the pitiful comments. I believe in saying something worthwhile. Sometimes I comment sometimes I don't. A lot of the time if someone has already posted my sentiments I won't comment since someone has already said it. What I really find annoying though is spam links dumped as a comment or non sense/gibberish posted as a comment. I can't help but feel like those are the people who rode the 'short bus' to school.

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article on a site. Someone commented, saying something like "your article is life changing". I was proud of getting such feedback. One of my friends, Andy Anderson, who has a nose for such comments, said it was spam. I was wondering what he meant. Andy responded that the person said nothing specific about my article. A few minutes later, I saw that the person had commented on someone else's article. Guess what ? It was word for word the same comment. Copy and paste. It's ridiculous to believe you can get away with that for long. For sure, my trust in that person fell to zero.
