I can't believe the 'celebrities' on APSense!

by Cheryl Baumgartner Medical Billing/Coding/Insurance
Yes that's right celebrities on APsense.  Keanu Reeves must love us since he had two accounts here and wow! Now Joan Van Ark wants to join the fun!

Okay to be truthful, Keanu Reeves is not a member of this network.  Joan Van Ark is not trying to be a member.  Members are using the photos of celebrities.  Yes their photos are available online to anyone with a computer but that does not give anyone permission to use their photos as avatars on this network.

If you see photos of celebrities being used, report it.

Thanks Cheryl, I'm not sure why people would want to use "other peoples" pictures as an avatar. To my mind the idea is to build relationships and trust, i doubt i'd be joining any programs offered by Keanu Reeves or Tom Cruise LOL. Thanks.

I wouldn't trust them. But more importantly using their photos can land people in hot water!

Apsense is about building relationships and trust. Everyone should be himself/herself. Impersonation should be a big NO NO.

Yes it should so when I see someone with the photo of a celebrity they go firmly on my do not trust list. I trust them less that I do "The Riddler" as a call those Question marks.

This morning I woke up to find Johnny Depp staring back at me from a profile photo. At least he wasn't all dressed up like captain Jack Sparrow

I don't think they can at times. I'm wondering who is next on the hit parade.

The question of who's next on the hit parade has just been answered, Brad Pitt. And this idiot used the promo photo from the movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The film title at the bottom of your 'photo' was a dead giveaway you know?

Some people have more than one account with the same photo and different names. How can we prevent this malpractice. I noted it in the APSense 2.0.

Ha ha Johnny Depp just tried to sneak back in but got turned away at the door. If you are uploading celebrities photos as your profile photo it will be denied. if it is discovered later it will be removed.

I wonder how a real celebrity gets in various sites like social or business communities....you think they use other unknowns photo and names?

MC Hammer is on Twitter and I'm a follower. He actually uses his own photo, imagine that! So far all of the celebrities I've noticed on social sites use their own promo shots.

I am on one site where the celebs 'lurk' they read the posts etc and communicate through feeding info to the admin who posts the updates

Actually, Cheryl, there is a far more important reason for not allowing celebrity photos.

The chances are that the photos are the copyright of someone being "represented" by evil debt collectors and 'legal' extortionists - see http://www.extortionletterinfo.com

I urge anybody with celebrity images on their web sites (or any images that they are not sure they have a licence to use) to read this blog. It is quite frightening!
