Being able to work from home is the perfect solution for many people There are lots of parents that would rather be home with their children, instead of placing them in daycare outside the home. Many individuals would also like to be the ones who choose when days off should occur and just how long a work day is. Learning how to succeed working at home can be accomplished with seven easy steps.

Step OneTalk with your family about what working from home means to you. The family will have to know where the boundaries are. Home is a place for them to unwind after a day at school or in the office, but it is your workplace and this should be made clear. Let them know what your goals are so that everyone can help you work towards them, instead of working against you.

Step Two- There may be times that the children will need to be supervised by an outside source, due to work issues. You never know when something may come up that you need to handle for work, but can't supervise the children at the same time. Having a backup source of childcare is important to consider.

Step Three- Whether you have older children caring for younger ones or an outside caregiver, it needs to be known whom is in charge. When something goes wrong, everyone cannot be running to you for help. The family will need to rely on the person in charge until you are finished with work. This needs to be made clear, otherwise there will be constant interruptions during your work time.

Step Four Being able to have your own office is a luxury that not everyone is able to have. There needs to be a separation between the rest of the house and your office area. If there isn't a designated space for you to work in, then it becomes just another part of the house. Using an old bed sheet or a blanket to make a hanging divider from the rest of the room is enough to make your own work place in the house.

Step Five- Professionalism is extremely important in any job. If there is constant running and screaming in the background, this doesn't sound very professional over the phone. There are excellent inventions known as noise canceling headsets. These are perfect for taking a phone call without any of the background noise being heard.

Step 6- Make a set work schedule. If you want to work from 8am to 4pm, then write this out and let the family know. Be sure they know your schedule, otherwise there might be lots of interruptions during your work time.

Step SevenExpect the unexpected. There will be times when someone will need to go to the doctor, you or a family member gets sick, or you need to make an appointment. Try to plan around these and keep a sense of humor about the whole ordeal. The more stress you create by worrying about the situation, the more your family will feel it also.

Using these seven steps is how to succeed working at home and being able to handle all that gets thrown your way.
