Baby Changing Bag- Choosing The Best Bag For Your Wonderful Baby

by Elicia Kottraba
It is surprising just how much stuff a tiny baby needs when you take it out. A blanket, a toy, dummies, bottles, tissues, maybe a change of clothes, and, of course, a baby changing bag, replete with spare nappies, wipes, and creams. Of course, there are hundreds of possibilities, ranging from the practical but unattractive, to the stylish and totally impractical. So, how do you choose?

First, since you'll be taking the bag out with your baby, it has to be easily portable. Don't forget that you won't just be carrying the bag, but maybe even the baby, or at least pushing the stroller. And you will still need to carry your own things, like your keys and phone.

Some bags are made of lovely material, but are not waterproof, or cannot be wiped down. As you can imagine, you don't want your baby's clean diapers to get wet, or be unable to wipe the inevitable spills from the inside. Many bags are made of a waterproof polyester material, and there are many attractive oilskin bags too.

But do ensure that the bag is well-constructed, as it will be heavily used for some time, and buying a flimsy one could well be a false investment.

Any bag should have several separate compartments, so you can keep soiled diapers away from clean ones, clothes, bottles and pacifiers, and it cannot be overstated how useful having lots of small pockets is, preferably mesh or see-through ones, so you can find things quickly, instead of having to rummage around at the bottom of a dark bag.

Other things to consider are whether you prefer carrying a rucksack, a holdall, or a satchel style bag. Depending on the design of your pushchair, you may find yourself running out of hands, especially on a shopping trip, although others will allow you to store the bag on the handles, or underneath the chair.

Consider the type of stroller you have, or will have. You need to be able to carry your bag when out with the stroller, and if there is no space under the seat, a holdall style bag will see you running out of arms pretty quickly. Satchel style bags or backpacks are often easier to carry, so you can save the hooks on the stroller for your shopping!

Some men may be reluctant to carry anything too funky or flowery, so you might want to consider this when choosing your bag, at least if you want him to carry the baby changing bag frequently, but do remember that you'll be taking it everywhere for quite some time, so choose something that you like, and that fits your life and fashion sense.
