For any online marketer the key to success is having your business website rank high in the search engines, preferably page 1 if possible as very few consumers searching online for goods and services will go past page 2.

To make your website more search engine friendly there are a couple of SEO things you can try for yourself.  The first is to change your meta tags, if you go into the code for your website at the top you should see some tags beginning META.  First off you will have meta title tag this needs to be the title of your webpage using your best keyword/s, do not over do it with keywords and make sure it is a clear title and not a wishwash of keywords that make no sense.  If you would like the definitive book on keywords for less than $10 go here

After your Meta title tag , have a look at your Meta Description tag and here incorporate your top few keywords into a description of your webpage, again dont overdo the keywords and have them make sense.  Next is your Meta keywords tag, here you list all your keywords for the webpage you are on.  Ideally you want to have a keyword ratio of between 1% to 3% with 1% being a little better I feel, what this mean is if you have 500 words of content on your webpage 5 words should be of your chosen keywords to get a 1% ratio.

These tips will help your rankings a little, adding some backlinks to your site by submitting articles to article directories or blogs again optimized with your keywords and linked back to your site will help hugely.

Remember in ranking your website, content is KING, the more original content on your website the better, if that content is keyword optimized and you follow the above tips you will have your website moving up the page ranks in no time.

Don't forget after going through this effort you must then submit your site to the search engines so it can be indexed.

Traffic exchanges can work but only if you are promoting a free product that others can use to promote their own product, think about these people on traffic exchanges are their primarily to promote their own products and have little interest in any one elses. So a) you need a good splash page that wil grab their attention and B) needs to be a product or service that will help them promote their own business. If you can provide an answer to A and B above you can build a list in Traffic exchanges if you are on their trying to promote your product that people pay for, you will have a very LOW success rate.
