I have spent my christmas and new year holidays in Noosa, a great place to relax, with my wife and brother.
We went to the cinema at Noosa Junction, eating out in child-friendly Noosa cafes and restaurants, riding our bikes along the foreshore of the Noosa river (it's amazing how far small people will ride when there's a playground at one end and an ice cream shop at the other!) and trying out the kids' new boogie boards at Main beach
Main Beach, behind Hastings Street, is a godsend if you have kids or aren't keen on big surf. The beach is very sheltered and has nice gentle waves - perfectly matched to my boogie boarding ability.
We stayed at the nice accommodation which was booked through Noosa accommodation booking engine from visitnoosa.com.au, has great selection of accommodation in Noosa.
The gentle waves also make Main Beach a great place to learn to surf. There is a surf school halfway down the beach that is run by former world champion Merrick Davis and caters for all levels, including complete beginners and kids from seven years old.
I went out for a lesson with them a while ago and had so much fun, I keep meaning to go back and do the three-day course that is supposed to put you at a level where you can grab a board and venture out on your own. I probably need the exercise after the Christmas scoffing season and if nothing else it ought to be good for a few laughs.
