Do You Really Want to Lose Weight?

by Janet Matthews Health and Nutrition Writer

Do you need to lose weight? Are you finding it difficult to maintain your target weight? Do you find that whatever you do the weight just won’t shift???

If the above relate to you then it is time to make some changes.

People who are overweight will often tell you they are overweight because they have a slow metabolism or because they have always been fat or many, many other reason. Or are they just excuses. It is true that some people put weight on more easily than others and also lose weight more easily than others but the bottom line is you are overweight because you are eating the wrong foods, the wrong type of calories and possibly the pattern of eating is wrong for your particular body type.

Did you know that food is more powerful than any weight loss pill when it comes to being able to lose weight because the food you eat will either make you thin or fat. Although exercise is important it is not the be all and end all where weight gain or loss is concerned. You get fat because you eat the wrong foods at the wrong time of day. It really is as simple as that.

It is undoubtedly true that your daily eating pattern can also affect your ability to lose weight. Too many people have no breakfast (some have a coffee which is even worse) very little lunch and then by night time they are ravenous and eat a large meal and probably several snacks during the evening. Your body needs to be fed at regular intervals and each of those meals should include some sort of protein food to speed up your metabolism. It is even better to have 5 smaller meals at regular intervals

So basically if your have gained weight because you have eaten the wrong foods at the wrong time of day you can now lose weight by eating the right foods at the right time of day.

You cannot lose weight by starving yourself because your metabolism will very quickly detect a drop in calories and will then adjust itself to burn less calories each day. This can in fact be the start of a downward spiral where you body struggles to constantly readjust to the changes you introduce to your dietary habits

There is a saying "If you do what you've always done you'll get what you always got" This is very true for anyone who wants to lose weight. You have to change your whole outlook on food and your way of eating if you are to successfully lose weight and maintain that weight loss. What you are currently doing doesn't work. It is also important to realise that if it isn't working for your weight it won't be working for your overall health either. The two are intrinsically linked. However many people choose to live under the misapprehension that you can be fat and healthy. This is a myth  devised by the person who doesn't want to face up to their weight problem. They are just kidding themselves so that they don't have to make the necessary changes to lose weight and improve their overall health for the present and for the future.

Make those changes now. You may even surprise yourself and start to enjoy your new eating regime. Very often people report a great improvement in their energy levels and can often feel better than they have felt for years.
