Airport "Lexus Lanes" shut down after theft of laptop

The theft of a laptop from an office at the San Francisco airport has suspended the Clear Registered Traveler Program.  Air travelers at San Francisco's airport have had the option of enrolling in the program and paying a $128 annul fee to avoid the regular security lines at the airport.  The program which uses biometric identifications allowed travelers to clear security faster.

Many people thought they were too busy and/or too important to stand in the lines with the rest of us.  That thinking has now turned around and attached it's teeth firmly to the rear ends of program enrollees.  Last week a laptop was stolen containing the personal information of 33,000 registered travelers.  Among the information was the standard names, addresses, birth dates, etc.  But also a bonus on many of them in the form of their passport information.

Police are investigating an found no signs of a break-in.  The official word is that the thief will have to get through two passwords to access the information, so you can rest easy.  Really now? If it was taken out of an office with no signs of a break-in, it would occur to me very quickly that thief already knows or has access to the passwords.

The TSA has suspended the program which is a smart move.  That person going through the Lexus Lane and getting on a plane could very well be an identity thief or the customer of one using stolen info that they bought from the thief.

What is truly frightening is the fact that just recently 11 people from 5 different countries were indicted on Identity Theft charges. This information was crossing international borders. Much of it was anonymously sold online in chat rooms.

All of these Homeland Security measures forcing us to provide the most dangerous personal information to prove who we are and it is not being protected. In this case Biometric information. I believe retinal scans was one of the methods.

I remember seeing a movie, I can't remember which one it was right now in which the killer plucked out the victims eye to pass through a retinal scan. Is that in our future now?

Hey, if the thief can get into a Lexus in the first place, some little laptop security code isn't gonna deter him...

Look at all the systems that these busted hackers got into:
