Anyway, Who Is This Inner Critic?

That is it! I have had enough... and who is this Inner Critic person anyhow? I do not even remember the day when I originally put that character on my personal management team. Then, to top it all off, as well as insidiously positioning itself as my second in command, I find that much of its time on the job is spent on spreading lies and malicious rumours!

Here is the clincher though, I cannot remove this disdainful little character, it constantly eludes me. It has been with me so long and its voice is so embedded in my subconscious thoughts, it is often indistinguishable from the more logical and conscious conversations that I might have with myself.

Do you know that this character even has cultural attributes, and depending on the environment in which we were raised, it will have you believe many things as absolute truth? Mark Twain once suggested, "Whenever you find you are on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect." Those kinds of internalized beliefs are fortified by the community of people surrounding you. For example, the tall poppy syndrome that is so much a cultural cliché in my country (Australia), might suppress many from even contemplating exciting projects that could expose them to prominence.

"Reality is made by agreement. Agreement is created when two or more similar or identical images are projected and fused. The more similar or identical images that are fused from more sources, the more solid the agreement and the more real the reality. Reality is not truth. The more solid the reality, the more untruth it contains." A quote by Alan C. Walter, from "Gods in Disguise".

I am putting in place an Inner Champion to over ride anything that I am advised, by this Inner Critic. With all future decisions, I will seek my initial advice from the Inner Champion, and especially when I strongly suspect that I am receiving false information from Inner Critic.

To challenge the information I get from the Inner Critic I will ask questions of it, such as, "Where did you get that information?", "How are you so certain about this?" or "Is that really true?" I then call my Inner Champion into the room to join the conversation and to hear what it may have to say on the matter.

A great way to call forward your Inner Champion, in everyday situations, is by having an affirmation or mantra to envision, feel and repeat as you go through the day. It is useful to change those daily or they will eventually become invisible, and the Inner Critic steps in immediately, sidelining any contribution from the Inner Champion. Some sample affirmations might be, "I choose to always be enthusiastic", "I choose to be crystal clear about what I want to achieve" or "I choose to win and help others win".

Reduce the power that your Inner Critic holds over you, by avoiding giving it a label of being "bad" and by giving your Inner Champion a "good" label. That will give both these characters an elevated sense of importance, causing disharmony. Conversations would then be confrontational instead of open dialogue. Remain engaged in open enquiries and conversations that explore possibilities. It is common for us to feel that we must remove something that is "bad" and this gives our Inner Critic much more of our focus and energy than it deserves!

By having our Inner Champion engaged in conversation with our Inner Critic, we are distancing ourselves and we can more easily hear what both are saying to us. Stand on the outside, looking in. Be a fly on the wall in the conversation. Remembering that you cannot change anything you do not know is there.

It is important to start hearing the internal dialogue between Inner Champion and Inner Critic. When you reject what either of these two characters bring to the table, you will not hear anything that they have to offer, and you may miss something of which you really want to be aware. That is their secret way of keeping you in the dark about who, or what, is really running the show when it comes to creating your own life and expanding your personal power.

Hi Cheryl....Pain is like a warning signal...telling you something is wrong and needs to change and almost always difficult to deal with...

As for especially the 'PMA Cult', positive will NEVER EXIST WITHOUT NEGATIVE!...all that there is, is necessary and exists solely because it MUST...LIFE feeds off DEATH, day is followed by night...night by day. Just as the universe cannot possibly have an end nothing could exist without the natural forces of good and evil, and even now there will still and always be opposition to a statement such as this one..it is all merely nature's way of keeping EVERYTHING THAT EVER HAS OR EVER WILL EXIST IN BALANCE...

Great Blog and discussion, Now I'm off to take that inner champion and kick some major inner critic butt!

Could you imagine that I had this very conversation here at Apsense last year
and all the PMA'S were still in denial that negativity served any purpose.

That is a SCARY thought.

I cannot believe that God would take his/her time to create something
that was completely worthless.

Yet the PMA'S said they believed in God too.
Believed... but still denying God's Creation.
Amazing and Scary

Now you are right Thea to say we have an "Inner Critic"
but we also have and "Outer Critic".

These (Outer Critics) are the people who criticize you when you are trying to get ahead.

I tried to leave a simple suggestion many times over at Kristian's Suggestions Blog
and you won't believe how many times I was insulted and literally told to "GET LOST"
because a few there don't want me to post suggestions or get my suggestions
looked at or accepted.

Or it comes as some nasty negative comments from other members who are clearly
jealous at the attention you are getting and how well you are doing with your business.

It's ashame to see older or mature individuals stooping to this level of nasty personal attacks
but we see it here many times at Apsense.

You also have to decide if you will listen to these "Outer Critics" who spend their whole day
trying to make your life as miserable as theirs.

It's up to you to decide if you want to use their energies for your benefit or not.
You are holding the reigns.

I tend to thrive on negative remarks.
I eat it as food for fuel, I always did growing up and still do.
And because I keep myself nourished, I always do better which makes the "Outer Critic"
even more miserable when they see me SHINE AND THEY REMAIN IN DARKNESS.

I build a better product with the negative fuel that I used as food.
I build it better, faster, stronger. "Six Million Dollar Man". hahahaha

Again it's up to you to decide if you want to use their energies for your benefit or not.
You are holding the reigns so take up your reigns and drive your chariot
over them bastards and crush them to death. hahahahaha

Just like in the Movie "Ben Hur", Charlton Heston ain't got nothing on me.

Negative is NEVER bad but positive is not always good,

It really amuses me when I hear people ranting on about being always 'positive'.

The most dangerous and damaging thing that has ever been foisted upon a gullible collection of people is the cult of PMA.

Look back over the whole history of mankind and ask yourself a very simple question - what did mankind EVER invent because what it had was good enough?

The thing that drives the inventive mind is LACK.

It is what IS NOT there that causes people to work towards creating that which is missing.

The most motivating and powerful force that acts upon is what we DO NOT have, experience or want. Nobody ever said - "My word, that left handed wobble flopper is so good - I think I will invent it all over again!"

What they do say is "That left handed wobble flopper isn't quite flopping the wobbles the way I would like it to - I will try to improve it!"

It is the negative side of our lives that drives us to excell. The positive tends to induce complacency and stagnation. If your PMA does not let you recognise that all is not well with the world, you will live surrounded by people thinking "Poor soul. Still, it is the simple things that please simple minds."

Embrace the negative. Squeeze it to your bossom and extract from it every piece of drive and motivation that you can. You will only ever strive for what you don't have - once you have it, the striving ends - - - until you find something else that you don't have.

Negative is NEVER bad but positive is not always good,

Great point Juenelle. Negative is not always bad. We have to be careful not to confuse logic with negative. As much as we all hate to be in pain, pain can save our lives. All too often we say negative when it is logic speaking trying to save us from ourselves.

Thea what an excellent well written blog

I remember this inner critic to be mentioned in the bible and referred to as "that woman".
I try to stay in the middle pillar and not feed the inner critic too much food.
However, remaining balanced is key because you want to thrive on both energies.
The negative and positive both have something to offer
and it's up to you to decide if you want to use their energies for your benefit or not.
You are holding the reigns.

Hello Thea,

Yes that Inner Critic sometimes is fustrating.

I know from your mails you write from the inner champion, we
can only gain more confidence as we progress in our learning
and really tuning into ourselves, turning off negative thoughts.

No one said it would be easy!
