How to Succeed Advertising on Web 2.0 Sites

by Steven Egu Owner, Egu Technologies

Web 2.0 sites are everywhere. They are MySpace, YouTube, face book and other social communities. These websites are all about interaction and targeting individuals based on interests, and personality. They are also hotbeds for internet marketers, as social communities and their advanced targeting tools can help the professional marketer target his potential clients much easier.

A MySpace business profile that is designed to attract other business entrepreneurs can generate a contact 'list' or network of thousands in a short amount of time. The ability to increase influence on these types of networks is near limitless, when they are utilized correctly. As easy as it is to promote yourself on these social networks, it's also as easy to completely destroy your credibility and make it very difficult for others within your niche to take you seriously.

The key is this: Provide complete and truly USEFUL information. Too many MySpace marketers make it a habit to SPAM their offers and services daily to their list of contacts. This quickly gets them identified as an annoyance in the system, and can lead to them being ignored by much of their list, removed from many friends list, or even banned from MySpace entirely. But when you are providing truly useful information, maybe in the form of an article or informational newsletter, you don't get the same level of negativity and people on your list actually look forward to receiving your daily or weekly broadcasts.

In this explosion of web 2.0, many online marketers have discovered that there are many social communities that are focused for their particular niche. For example, a home based business owner may join a social community that focuses on home based business owners. Regardless of the social community you decide to join, the etiquette is still the same. If you act unprofessional and SPAM your opportunities or products, you will be blacklisted extremely fast. The best bet is to be professional and take the time to customize your advertisements, make then unique and applicable to the person you are sending them to.

Video based web 2.0 communities such as YouTube is a little bit different, mostly because of the fact that communication is done mostly through the use of video. However, if your video is setup like a newsletter, professionalism is a must. As you put up more and more videos, people will begin following what you are doing, many may subscribe to your 'channel.' As this starts to happen, you will begin to create a social following, and people will begin to form opinions on you, and what it is you are making videos about. This can be very powerful, and can be either really good for you and your business, or really bad for you and your business.

In this age of web 2.0 it is much easier to generate traffic to your WebPages and products mostly because the days of waiting to be indexed in the search engines are nearing an end. People want immediate results, and the ability to immediately find the information they are looking for, and this is creating a wealth of opportunity for the home-based business owner. Once again personal relationships and communication is becoming the key to success in online business, and by mastering the different resources and skills required, a lot of money can be made in this digital age.
