Why Don't More People Recycle?
by Jean DAndrea Retired Yesterday I answered an ad in our local Yahoo "Freecycle" group. This time I was lucky enough to be the first responder and got the goods -
approximately 75 hanging files, most with plastic tags attached.
Sure, they had been used, but 95% were in excellent condition, and it
saved my partner & I a few dollars.
"Freecycle" is a great idea - the rules are, everything you advertise MUST
be free. You post an offer to the group, and mostly you'll get a taker
the same day.
It's pretty secure, because you don't even have to meet the person.
The goods can be left on your front porch at an agreed time, and that's
that.
I think it's a great idea. So far, I've got rid of my old PC, otherwise
destined for landfill, and some craft stuff no longer required. It's pretty
surprising the variety of items on offer, and there are probably only a
minimal amount of people who actually participate. Wish there were more,
for the sake of landfill.
Of course, there's always the chance I'll see something I want, but don't
need, and start to hoard stuff, but then, I can always re-advertise it
the next time I have a clean up! :-)
