My friend Marsha thinks she is a Polar Bear!

by Jenny Stewart
Yes, it's true.  My friend Marsha from Kansas City in darkest Missouri thinks she is a Polar Bear!

She does this every year!  There is nothing we can do to stop her.

The reason she has this problem is that every year in early February she takes part in the Polar Bear Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics Fund.

She and about 300 other other nuts brave the freezing water of the Longview Lake in Kansas City, MO and raise money through sponsorship.  This odd part about it is that they ENJOY it.  They all get dressed up in fancy dress to do the jump.  Last year they had to break through 4 inches of ice to get i! I hope they all have good medical insurance.

Special Olympics Missouri was founded in 1971. What began as a track meet with a few hundred disabled athletes has grown to serve more than 14,000 athletes with 154 competitions annually. They rely solely on donations from generous individuals and businesses to provide world-class experiences for the athletes.

Please be a fan by supporting this special event. I have done so already - anything rather  than jump!

Check out Marsha's page by clicking on the Polar Bear.   We can all help!!  Even if it is only one dollar!  Last year they raised over 10,000 dollars just from sponsorships from people like us.

I support them by doing the 76 mile bike ride every season but this one... My bikes got stolen. I'll be happy to help them out here in Atlantic City where there is a fine chapter of Polar Bears! LOL! :)

Cold Ocean water is one heck of an experience! :)

Hi Guys

Thanks for all your comments etc. Jokes aside - it is pretty amazing what people do to help the Special Olympics. Jumptng in icey water to raise money for disabled athletes is not something I would do willingly.

Peaceful - now we have to get used to imagining you on a bicycle!! If you want to help out - if you go to her page there is a link that you can use to contact them.

And everyone - any donation, however small, will be gratefully received. The work these guys do is fantastic.

Love
Jenny

Come on guys, I don't want to freeze my you know what off for such a great cause and not collect at least my goal. I'd really like to double my goal and I know I can do it if I can just get a little help from all you kind people out there. Surely lots of you know someone who participates in Special Olympics and if you do then you know how much they enjoy it . What you might not know is that it takes alot of money to put on all their activities and this is the one BIG fundraiser they have. Thanks for all your support.

I'm with the warm water group myself. Couldn't stand
to get in water that cold - it doesn't even snow here usually. :-)

Good luck to you Marsha - you can have it all to yourself! :-)

I can't reach my goal if good people like yourselves don't donate. I'm not asking any of you to go jump in a freezing lake, I've got that part covered. All I need you to do is donate just a little money. If your under the euro then it's a good deal for you, considering the value of the dollar right now. I appreciate all the comments, but I'd really appreciate a little action on my fundraising page.

Well she did it!! Raised a stack of money for the Special Olympics. There were twice as many participants this year than last year - which is great news. They all nearly froze to death and Marsha won first pirze for her costume - as a menopausal elf!!

She is now in Spain thawing out.

Will post photos when she lets me have them!! This could be a blackmail job!

I thing this is a craze and we can stop some body to do these things. If they are happy to doing somthing then this is good.
Nothing to warry in this.

But if you think this is madness and will be bad for her or can injured her.And they crossed the limit.

The sugestion is give her lotes of love. Find what she want and what she miss in life. Try to provide her needs.Best of luck
