Apsense homepage open to misinterpretation
by Jan MeyntjesTodays homepage, 22/12/2007, certainly was a most interesting one as far as I was concerned. Now remember, this is the page that all yours and mine referrals land and make the decision to join or not. Now if I was to become a member of this" business social community" and actually spend some time looking at the blogs, I may be tempted not to join this community at ALL!!!!
Popular Business Blog
- Widgetization!
- Breakfast Anyone?
- Candiru Catfish- Whether You Have A "Hoo-Ha" Or A 'Woo-Woo" This Vamp/Fish Will Give You The "Willies"!
- What Color are Your Eyes?
- The Wels- Did Somebody Say That They Liked Catfish? LOL!
Popular Business Discussion
- Why Parents Drink!!
- Why I started Overcoming Depression 101
- Parents of deceased children struggle with a loss that should not have happened
- Does Article Writing help your Internet Presence?
- What to do ...when you HATE your job!
Now before you grab your Tommy guns or start browsing through Soldier of Fortune looking for hitmen, I actually read all the articles(blogs) and they are great reading, but the problem I have,is the "Impression" that a prospective member may get when he sees these "business" titles.
Is this the "impression " that we want to present to new referrals, that we are the same as all the other Social Networks, or that we are a "serious business" network were the objective is "business".
I certainly joined here to learn from the experts, to progress with my own and participate in meaningfull discussions about business.
I leave you with this food for thought and, your comments
ps. I love you all

One of the nice things about APSense is that is it a business and social network. What I see by the homepage is people being themselves. I'd much rather do business with someone I know something about rather than a "Business Profile". I'm on another network that is strictly business and well at times it gets stale. There's times you feel like you are stuck in a boardroom. The atmosphere here at APSense is business people enjoying themselves. I think there are quite a few that see this as a fun place to be rather than a required place to be. They also see that they can discuss anything without being made to feel as if they don't belong or as of they are being censored. The general mood is much more welcoming and interactive than many other sites out there. Here you can get to know others, strengths and faults we are pretty open. That's much better than stifling everyone by using a by the book approach. Dec 21st 2007 15:54 |

You do have a very valid point in that my blog 'Breakfast Anyone' would probably not leave another "business" person a good impression, for that I am truly sorry. I should try harder to make it more "business-like"... but, on the same token, please keep in mind that not all businesses look the same. For example, my business HealthyFishies does not look like other businesses and so when I blog about breakfast, It is actually about my business and the businesses of my website's members. Maybe the Apsense leaders should remove food & drink and the life in general topics from being eligible for the front page. That way there will not be any confusion on what Apsense is all about. I would like to think that Apsense is about being a ""community"" of business people, who promote their businesses by sharing themselves as a person and not just a product pusher. Unfortunately, the people who share themselves on that level are also the ones who seem to make the front page *heh* Maybe the solution is simply enabling new guidelines for what "belongs" on the front page of this Social Network... or simply having the members change the titles of their blogs to something a little more Business-like .. LOL! Great blog by the way-- :-) Thanks !! Dec 21st 2007 16:11 |

Oh Heck Janno - The titles might be a little odd - but they are DIFFERENT!! I have to admit that if we had had more titles like this - i might have become more involved earlier. I started off well and then it got rather serious, and I started losing interest - then the "character blogs" started Now it seems to be a social business community of people who have tremendous senses of humour. I can network with people like that. They are usually very good business people. They know when to work and when to play (which is whenever they are not working! LOL) Maybe it is nearly Christmas) we have become a little facecous/facicious/faceacous/SILLY recently - but it wouldnty put me off that much - far from it It would make me curious and I would go and check the site out - and of course find some excellent and informative businesses blogs and Groups!! No Fishie, please don't change your titles - i was just off to see what you were offering for Breakfast. If you called it something about Healthy eating I think I might have passed. Janno, of course you have every right to make your comments - but i think the fact that these blogs are amongst the most read - and by some pretty serious business people, shows that you don't need to worry too much. I would far father see that than "50$ for joining a new MLM programme - which looks a if it is probably a very big scam. Dec 21st 2007 16:47 |

Hi Janno, Everything on the planet is open to misinterpretation. We all have our world views, what is right and what is wrong based on what our parents, siblings, teachers and society has taught us. Having an open mind and excepting what is so and how it is so is a quality I strive for every day. Just asking the simple question; What Love Would Do? assists me with all my potential misinterpretations. To Your Success, Dec 22nd 2007 11:39 |

Web Presence ProviderI can agree with you. I tried to suggest some people here something, in a few comments here: http://www.apsense.com/article/113883.html but they don't understand and miss my point. I personaly dont't believe that future ApSense BOOOOOOOM will come (read article http://www.apsense.com/article/113883.html about exectations) when main discussions in business social network covers everything else. So, my question is again the same: where are the differencies betwen ApSense and other social networks (Yuwie, Lazzeo, friendswin, etc....)? ...Oh, we have fun and we are happy here and this network is better than others.... were answers I got... Again, I must emphasize this - I don't see any difference between this and other social networks, in other is maybe more business content than here. And you know why? Because they're bigger, Dec 22nd 2007 18:15 |

Director ViSalus SciencesYes, I would join in a heartbeat...because of the 'realness' and to see the social interaction that goes on here...instead of the 'JOIN MY COMPANY'....that goes on else where :0) Dec 23rd 2007 21:23 |

Exactly Jenn. I didn't really start getting active until I saw people beginning to be themselves instead of trying to present the stuffed shirt I'm a business person and belong in the boardroom type attitude. I like to have fun, here I'm able to have fun with other business people. You know most business does not get done in the "boardroom" but on the "golf course". It's the social settings that spawn the relationships and the ideas. Not only that there will be a lot of discussions on details. What happens in the boardroom is simply making it official. It's the social aspect that leads to business and not the other way around. Dec 24th 2007 09:28 |

Online Marketing Specialist/ConsultantExcellent, Cheryl! Even Donald Trump knows that the golf course ( In my case, the kitchen or bass boat) is where business gets done.... He makes milllions having fun, no matter what! :) Dec 24th 2007 09:41 |

Awesome Jenn! Putting lots of traffic here is one thing....attracting Quality vs Quantity is quite another. What good are a bunch of sign ups who do nothing? I'd much rather have 5 serious people who know or are willing to learn how to get things done anyday over a hundred that show up, post a few ads and never return to the site again. Online Marketing Specialist/ConsultantWhen one of my best friends, who is also a writer and an excellent business woman (She OWNS several successful online businesses) called me and told me NOT to come here because it was so monstrously boring: Ads flying in your face 24-7, "Post and Run", no interconnectivity and so on... I had to come and see for myself... This Lady is a wonderfully creative soul with a lot of spunk and fire. If Apsense had the stunning power to shut her down, this really beared looking into... It took me nearly 5 MONTHS to become "Active", because I was still burning inside from the loss of my Work-- One funny post from Jeunelle made me turn on my 'Motor" and I'm in full throttle now, thanks to you guys, you are Family and Inspiration to me... and I will do anything and everything for you, except one thing, and that's BORE YOU! :) Dec 24th 2007 10:03 |

Yes, let's face it. Many of the APSense users just post ads and never to return to visit the site. Well, I think its part and parcel of every Internet networking sites. Even in forums or even blogs, there are "spammers" or "post-an-ad-then-leave" kinda people. But despite all these people, there are still people who are genuine and "real". And sure, there are bound to be misinterpretation. I wonder what can we do about it... Dec 24th 2007 10:17 |

Online Marketing Specialist/ConsultantJames, we are already doing something about it! :) We active writers are the kernel of a great community in the making! :) The poster's and runners, spammers and the "weak" will do what they do, and when we don't respond to their stuff, they will simply "Go Away"... Those who push and promote low quality products programs and services will also "Go Away"... The simple presence of highly active, quality individuals who Work and Play Here, simply don't have the time or attention to give these misguided folks. Dec 24th 2007 10:49 |

Hi Janno, I just came across this blog you wrote and many no doubt have commented... That is an odd assortment of articles/blogs that are the top read and most popular... and they have to do with people and not with business for the most part! So... I've been going around visiting some other members and blogs to see what else is out there besides what comes up on my Apsense Express! I need to write and post better content myself... i've been posting holiday greetings and funny stuff in have fun Groups! What a way to work! Happy New Year Beth ps... luv ya all !! RetiredHopefully, the people reading the posts you mention, Janno, will see our signatures, and visit our sites. Many of the blogs you mention are just people having fun, and writing about their experiences for the enjoyment of others. It may or may not, lead to some business contacts. If so, fine, if not, fine also, because I look at Apsense as a SOCIAL networking site, rather than a business one now. Sure there are those who post and run, but every day, there are more and more of those who actually write and enjoy it. So long as there is quality content to read, I'm staying. Internet Marketer, bloggerI THINK THE WHOLE CONCEPT OF APSENSE IS REFRESHING FROM OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA,I BELONG TO SEVERAL,THEY ARE ONE'S THAT ALWAYS WANT YOU TO UPGRADE IN EVERY COMMUNICATION,JUST ABOUT READY TO QUITE IT.HERE YOU MEET FRIENDY PEOPLE,AND BUSINESS,BUT NO SPAMMING OR VERY LITTLE OF IT. Dec 1st 2010 14:17 |

Thanks for the compliments and for sharing your opinions, Janno! :)
I have learned long ago to leave "The Market " to decide it's own 'Impressions" for the sake of sanity... Not everyone here thinks the same or feels the same, about everything the same way, all the time... That's what makes Apsense a great place for FREE THINKING PEOPLE... and for people who wish to write about whatever they feel about...
I certainly know that there are BILLIONS of people on this Planet with ME, and they weren't all made to see things the way I do... And that's wonderful! :)
I have learned that Peace is sometimes about Loving and Accepting folks and their 'Impressions and Expressions as they are... Along with a very big dose of love and respect... for myself as well.
I've learned that my thoughts, actions and deeds, no matter how Peaceful to me, may be not be quite the Good Stuff to others... And I accept that, and get on with the living of my Life and becoming a better Human Being as well as a Human Doing, which is my Real Business...
I'm inclined to believe that most people come to their decisions about whether to join a network, such ours, for their own reasons, and not because of the reasons that we ourselves project onto them... It's also my own impressions at work, too... And through much experience, that it's not possible or really feasible to harness this Virtual Life and it's People successfully and put them in a "box"... to me that would be like herding cats- Not Recommended.
My Joy is in seeing that Vibrance and Vitality move and surge through Apsense these days... It was not that way when I first joined. And this activity, you will notice, is only by a handful of Apsense's population... We keep the Joint Jumpin', the best way we know how.
Believe me, I have seen the death of two Social/Business networks, and it's not pretty. One of them even took some of my Work with them, Work that I will never be able to retrieve... I am guessing that was Boredom, Sameness, Decending Into Drama, and then outright Violence and Criminality that took them down... pity.
In spite of the headlines on the front page, Mis-interpretation or Interpretation are really up to the Interpretor, another job that i'm glad not to do! -- I see people hopping over to sign up. I, myself do no active recruiting, because I am doing what i came here to do. My business is Writing about stuff, and Apsense is a great place to do just that! :)
Merry Holidays To You And Yours! :)
Slainte!
