Silly Sight of the Day!Posted Date: 2007-11-17 16:31, Pageview: 639 |
The sight? Well, me, actually, standing out in the rain, watering my garden!
As you know, we're in a drought here in Australia. In Melbourne, we're only
permitted to water between 6am - 8am two days a week, the days depending
on what your street number is.
This morning I got up early to get my garden dampened down, as we're in for
some 30C + temperatures this week.
While I was watering the front garden, it started to rain, but kept going anyway,
as it was only a short shower, which doesn't even keep the dust down! The rain
soon stopped.
Moved out to the back garden, and proceeded to water that as well. Here's where
the really stupid bit happened:
It's raining a bit harder now, a huge thunderclap is rolling around me, and I'm
standing under a tree, hose in hand, watering the veggie patch!
How stupid can you get? Wet, under a tree, in a thunderstorm, hose in hand
........ sometimes I doubt my sanity!
The rain really wasn't enough to do more than make the top 1 mm of soil damp,
so the watering needed to be done. At least I'm saving a little money on veggies,
as the beans and peas are fruiting nicely, and other plants are growing well.

| Hi Lisa,
Yes, it was fun, and rain is great - it's raining this morning, which is very unusual, and I went out in it because I could! Hi Jen, Well, I'd normally be booked by the water people too, but it was during my two hours permitted watering so I was safe. That's partly why I was doing it in the rain. We have so little at present. Today's rain is so very welcome, sorry, we need it all here, so Georgia can't have any. :-) Our reservoirs are not doing well at all. |

| All I ask is to PLEASE send the rain this way too....to Georgia. If I was caught watering my plants in the rain....I sure enough would be citation ed not a joke....but we are begging here to pull water out of reservoirs . Serious stuff. NO DOUBT. !!!!

| Hi Lisa,
I heard about the California fires - I think you get the same type of winds and weather that we do. The hot North winds from across the desert in summer are probably the same as your "Santa Anna" - they have a disastrous effect when the bush is tinder dry. Let's hope this year is better and we get the much needed rain. |

| Isn't nature funny. In the bucket it's red but, on the car it's just plain dirty.

| Hi Jean,
it's great that we can get a laugh out of life every now and then. Monika heard the thunder, let the dog in, put her buckets out and caught some nice colored dust.

| Jean that's quite alright go ahead and water your garden in the rain. a really silly sight is watching swimmers hustle to get out of the water and under an umbrella when it rains. I mean after all they are in the ocean. How much wetter can the rain make them? |

| As you know, I love the rain! I sure do miss it.
I'm hoping that soon the rains will return. Usually, December and January we get alot of rain. We live pretty close to where the fires were in Southern California, but far enough to be out of harms way. The first day we had the fires, the sky was Rust Orange, in all directions, and looked like 8 o'clock at night, when in reality it was only 1 'clock. The Wild fires seem to always come around this time of the year when we get whats called "Santa Anna" Winds. Dry desert winds. So...don't cry! Were here and reading your blog! I hope you will always be smiling in your Garden! |

| Hi Thinking of you with your restrictions, in Melbourne. Crazy stuff this climate and water restrictions. Here on the Sunshine Coast - we have had some good rain - in fact our local dams are at near capacity. But we are operating under water restrictions - hand watering only - restricted times and days. Crazy or other motives - I think Brisbane is eyeing our water reserves, and does not want to risk uss using too much before it has the pipes in place to tap into our system. Eric |

| Hi Jeff,
I'm really glad you people over there that the drought has broken. Rain is beautiful! The Met. Bureau aren't being very hopeful about ours, I'm afraid. Looks like being a long hot summer. It's still Spring, and today is going to be 37 C. Perhaps I'll melt...... :-) |

| We had a drought here on the East Coast in the USA, plus a blistering heatwave that really just broke about two weeks ago... Weather like this makes me crazy, so I know how you feel... I hope that it rains buckets for you sweet Aussie-folk, and for us too here in the States, as well! |
