Introduction to Google Adsense

What is Google Adsense?

Google, the world's largest search engine rolled out Adsense program in June 2003. Since then it has been active in monetizing blogs and websites alike.

Google Adsense is contextual in nature meaning that it identifies the content on a website to show related advertising. This technology has greatly helped to increase the relevancy of advertising at the same time providing usefu, relevant content in the form of non-intrusive ads.

Adsense greatly eliminated the need to maintain in-house advertising sales departments for large web portals by automatically scanning content to show relevant snippets of text in the form of ads.

Who can Join Adsense?

Anyone having decent content that comply with all of their policies are allowed to participate. It really is very easy and quick to get into Adsense.

A large part of Google's revenue comes from content sites and publishers like AOL, Shopping.com, NetScape, About.com and Lycos and many more. Small blog and content publishers are also included in the program.

How Much Do I Earn with Google Adsense?

Google Adsense is a contextual and pay-per-click advertising model meaning that there is no fixed value to how much you will earn per click. It all depends upon the given topic and advertiser competition. While the rates vary greatly from a couple of cents to as much as thirty or more dollars per click, the average cost-per-click (CPC) is assumed to be near 40 cents. Again, it all depends on the topic and is not a rule of the thumb.
