We hear much about how many online marketers are failing. Some say 95%, others as high as 99%, and the definition depends on the criteria used. If you are judging "failure" as never having made any money, the stat is likely in the 98 to 99% range. If you judge "success" as having made a few bucks ever, then the stats are going to be a bit higher. In any event, the failure rate is astounding. Why is that?
My contention is that many online marketers do not treat their business as a serious business. Many want or expect to make no investment. How realistic is that? If you were going into business offline, would you ever expect to get started with no capital at all? Would you expect to advertise for free? And if you did have such expectations, would you be surprised when your business collapses? Proably not.
We seem to accept that business in the offline world requires a level of commitment. It is accepted that success will require an investment of time and capital. It is further widely accepted that success will not be instantaneous. Isn't it odd that we would consider business online to be any different?
In fact, it is no different. The monetary investment is considerably less than purchasing or leasing a building, stocking shelves etc, but there is an investment required.
So, if you are one of the online marketers who has no budget for advertising, learning, personal development, out sourcing - consider yourself to be playing. Your business is really a little hobby, something you do for fun and that you hope one day will pay for itself. There is certainly nothing wrong with enjoying a hobby! One day you may consider turning your hobby into a serious business. In the meantime, continue enjoying yourself!
The serious business builder has a plan; a serious business plan and a vision for the future. That vision includes expansion and growth. It includes a budget for advertising, website development, education and personal development. The plan may include a budget for out sourcing. For example, if you are not an accomplished webmaster, you may wish to hire someone to build you a site. The serious business builder understands that success will not be instant.
If you are in network marketing, you want to attract serious business builders. Those who are in it for a hobby are good retail customers, but you want to spend your time working with your serious builders. The first step to attracting serious business builders is to be one yourself. Like attracts like. Create your business plan, develop a budget ;and dive in! Work your plan, and you will reap the rewards.
