by Jeremy Flores Freelance Writer

If you search the Internet for content marketing advice, you'll find all sorts of advice about formatting your content so that it is easy to read, using keywords, optimizing for mobile, and the importance of using visual content. What you won't find is information on the content of your content. What should you be telling your audience? How can you use the written word to increase your website conversion rate, get customers excited about your brand, create engagement, and increase social shares? What can somebody, who is not a writer, do to make their written content pop? Finding answers to these questions when it comes to existing advice on content marketing is nearly impossible. The answers are available, however, if you take the word content out of the equation. This is because when we focus on making the written word as powerful and compelling as it can be, the strategies that work for outbound marketing, print advertising, even broadcast advertising works for content marketing. One of these strategies is using power words to incite customers to heed your call to action.

What are Power Words?

Power words are words and phrases that are extremely effective at stirring up emotions and compelling people to take action. You are probably familiar with many of them. Limited time only and offer ends soon,  are two power words (phrases) that you have probably seen multiple times in advertisements. The reason that you see them so often is that they work. These particular power words create a sense of urgency. They cause people to take action so they don't miss out on an opportunity. Rip-off and scam are two more power words that are used in marketing. These words make people angry that they are being overcharged or not being given the service that they deserve. This makes it more likely that people will respond to a call to action to do business with one company instead of its competitor.
