Munnar is the Himalayas of the South for the South Indians. It is present in Idukki district of Kerala State. The top four of the highest mountain ranges of the Western Ghats are in this Idukki. It boats bio-reserve, waterfalls, forest, mountain peaks, tea, spice and coffee estates. It is a tourist-friendly place in Kerala. Its coordinates are 10.0889° North and 77.0595° east.

  1.       Anamudi National Park

This is a bio-reserve on the Western Ghats. When you reach this National Park, you can view the highest Mountain Peak of the Western Ghats Mountain Ranges. You will be just 1000-meters below the 8842-ft peak. This is the best place to visit by nature lovers, animal and adventure seekers. This is a reserve forest protecting the wild elephants, lion, leopards, and gaur. You can see this peak clearly during the dry seasons (March to May).

  1.       Attukal Waterfalls

This is a scenic waterfall of Munnar, which you have to hike through the rainforest and reach this place. The best time to visit here is from June to March to see the engulfing milky flow of water. A day trip is the best to enjoy this attraction by taking photos and enjoying Mother Nature. This is the best place for romantic people to visit once in Munnar tour.

  1.       Mattupetty Dam

Mattupetty is a small scenic village of Idukki. This is a small dam with picturesque rolling hills surroundings. This is the best place to see the marshlands of Western Ghats. Boating is an important activity you can do in its reservoir. This is the only place where you can see the mountain mist throughout the year. You can try its cool garden fresh carrots from this place.

This is a popular tea garden and hill station in Kerala State. You will land here first and see its other attractions. It is an all-season cool place for the honeymooners. You can stay in Mountain View hotels and resorts. You must visit its tea museum, tea estates, and spice estates. You can taste garden fresh tea from this place. The cardamom, pepper, coffee, tea, and herbs are cheaper to buy from Munnar.

  1.       Periyakanal Waterfalls

This is a mystic canal and a steep waterfall area to see on the way to Munnar-Suryanelli Road. You can see this waterfall with full flow in the wet seasons June to February. The water just splashes down this canal, where a cascade and a bridge separate this waterfall and the steep canal. It is a picturesque place to take photos with this waterfall as a backdrop. You can see this waterfall throughout this canal road.

  1.       Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

This wildlife sanctuary is in Thekkady. This is the best place for the nature lovers and adventure seekers to get lost in the wilderness of mountainous forest of the Western Ghats. You can watch wild animals like elephant, Bengal tiger, and jungle cat in their natural state. It is the best place for hiking and trekking in a silent valley.

  1.       Suriyanelli

This is a popular destination for the honeymoon couples once in Munnar. This is because; it promotes honeymoon tourism in posh tea garden view resorts with a couple spa and massage services. The entire area is with private tea estate and spice estates. You can hike in those tea estates with prior permission. It is the scenic place to take photos with tea estate as a backdrop. You can hike and visit its 3rd highest mountain peak of the Western Ghats Mountain Ranges, which is popularly known as Meesapulimala.

  1.       Kolukkumalai

This is high altitude mountain ranges of the Western Ghats bordering the Tamil Nadu State. You can visit its world highest tea garden ‘Kolukkumalai Tea Estate’. The road access is there through Kerala state only even though it is an administrative territory of Tamil Nadu state. You can hike in this tea garden. This is an excellent place to taste this tea from the place of origin.

  1.       Vagamon

This is a scenic mountainous drive route of the Western Ghats. You can stop at large curves and places allowed for the tourist to stop and view its lush green marshlands. You can take scenic photos along with the rolling hills as a backdrop. It is advisable to visit before sunrise to see the early morning mountain mist on these meadows.

  1.   Vandiperiyar

This is another tea estate and spice garden area of Idukki. You must travel by road from Munnar to reach this scenic mountainous place. It is a cheap destination for resort tourism, massage center, and spas. You can stay in homestays with traditional Kerala foods.  

November to May is the best time to visit Munnar to see all of the above attractions.
