Types Of Servers And Their Functions

by Pravin Ganore Subject Matter Expert (SME-SEO & SMM)
A Micro server which is available on networks to provide peripheral and / or files to other devices is well known, but there is confusion in defining the types of servers.

They are:

File Server

Possibly the simplest of all. It is one that stores files and provides for other Micros Local Network. You can set it so that only makes data backup, file sharing and data storage.

Print Server

As networks grew, it was necessary to use shared peripherals such as printers, what if each computer had to have a printer, networking costs for medium and large would be astronomical, even more so in many cases the printers are little used.

Hence arose printer sharing, a way to use a single printer to many computers.

You can share a network printer in several different ways, among which we highlight the switchers, a Micro connected to a local network and an electronic device that controls the use of the network printer.

The switchers are devices that direct use printer. mechanics are used manually, while the electronics automatically redirect the signal from the printer. But the use of these devices is not very advisable for computers that are in remote locations or when there are more than 2 Micros. It still aggravating to spoil after a certain time of use (something that happens even faster in manual switching)

To solve these problems the most advisable is to buy a Print Server, a server that manages the printer individually, giving it its own identity within the network, and making available to all the Micros.

Several types available, parallel port , Wirelles, ethernet and others.

printers today are already coming with RJ45 connectors, which facilitates monitoring and release the Print Server. so please read carefully the information in your printer and see what the most viable solution for your network.

Communications Server

This is a configured to run exclusively all the procedures, provide access to network and develop an interface that unites devices needed to work on the network, and a path through which other Micros connected to it to access the network. It is used by telephone networks.

Server Gateway

Is a device capable of connecting two networks that use different protocols, avoiding shocks packages, and improving the transition of the data. You can connect local area networks to the Internet, so that the server has access to all the information accessed by other web Micros and may block access to some websites.

Network Server

Coordinates traffic and data packets in the network, monitoring Her performances and resources. Monitors the network for errors and trying to solve them.

DHCP Server

Meets broadcast packets in the network of computers, sending each packet with an available IP address and other network data. As is always scanning for ascertainment and devices are making use of the network, the IP's will never run out because the DHCP is changing the IP's for periods of time.

Proxy Server

Allows access of Network Internet site. It is quite advantageous when the IP is fixed, because it shares the internet connection. It can record all of the computers on the network navigation, block some unwanted sites and still save pages recently used by the network, so that the history is available for all PCs, streamlining the Internet.
