My Advice on how to run a Digital Marketing Agency

by John Stevens Digital Marketer

From my years of experience in the digital marketing industry, I thought I’d pen this small article to share my experiences within the industry to help any of you thinking about working in or starting up your own digital marketing agency. Hopefully by the end of this article, your basic start up questions should be answered but if you have any more, please don’t hesitate to message me for more information! Here are some basic steps to follow when setting up a digital marketing agency.

Get the Right Clients

When you first start your business, it might be very easy to accept work from anyone and everyone. Although this does have it’s advantages with more income, you have to be sure that you can do the work to start with. Try to take clients where the work needed isn’t overly complicated and where the results should be relatively easy to quantify.

High Quality = High Reputation

Your reputation is everything in the digital marketing world. There’s a lot of other agency out there so what makes you stand out from the rest? Well, keeping a higher than high quality of work is the best place to start with. Create an impressive reputation at the start of your business rather than working hard to remove a bad one. Again, this is directly linked to choosing the right clients in the first place. This is also linked to your first impression, whether it's in person or online. Make sure you keep your website looking fresh, updated and modern because this represents your online image. If you're not an expert at html coding, maybe you should hire a website design professional to create it for you!

Know your Strengths and Know your Weaknesses

You could develop your business to be the best in the world, but some other agency out there will be better at certain aspects of digital marketing than you are. This is just how the world works. What this means is, stick to your strengths and avoid your weaknesses. If you’re better at a certain type of promotion, stick to that. Make your strengths the core of your business.

Hire the Right People

It’s likely that to start with, you’ll probably do most of the work yourself. However, if your business is expanding and the amount of work is increasing, hiring some extra help might be a good idea! Make sure that when you are hiring people, you get that blend of creativity and hard working instinct that reflects the image of your business. The are representing you and your company’s future!
