How Private Players Are Ensuring the Right to Education for Children in India

by Ratul Puri Marketing Consultant
Poverty entangles men in a vicious cycle that is very difficult to get out of. Since the poor and economically downtrodden do not have enough to make ends meet, they are hardly bothered with sending their kids to school. The outcome is not unbeknownst to us, it starts off an entire cycle of failure upon failure that saps life away and degrades the overall quality of life.

Due to poverty, social stigma, physical disability or some other reason, children are unable to exercise their right to education.

And, without the right education millions of children begin life in a disadvantaged position which makes it rather extremely difficult for them when they have to snatch good opportunities in life from people who are better educated. To remedy the situation several non-government entities have come forward to contribute with their efforts and to supplement the efforts put forth by the government. Here we will see how private players contribute to the overall education scene in India.

Influencing Social Psychology
Many families living below the poverty line or technically just above that do not see any benefit in sending their kids to school. They are of the view that education will only be a waste of time that could have been fruitfully utilized in working in agricultural workplaces or in any other income generating avenue. This psychology prevents people from sending their kids to school. This is where these private players contributed a lot. To initiate change it is very important that the mentality of people change. This is how the right to education for children in India will be truly ensured.

Free Education Opportunities
Education needs money. However, it has been observed that when poor parents are given money for their children’s education they usually end up squandering it or save it for things that they deem more important than their child’s education. To circumvent that, non-for-profit organizations have rather found it more convenient to offer free education services.

Creating Avenues for Higher Education
Providing education free of cost has its own limits. Higher education is very costly and no non-for-profit organization is able to pay the huge expenses that are involved in educating children beyond high school, but there are ways to solve that problem too. The solution is in finding financing help for deserving candidates. Banks and financial institutions offer education loans but since the poor are unaware of that, even deserving candidates don’t get the right opportunities. Private players do their bit by connecting with best students with good financing opportunities.

The right to education for children in India has to be ensured at multiple levels and as you can see there is no one single solution to the problem. The fight has to be taken up at multiple levels.
