In addition to increasing traffic in a company?s store, more companies are looking towards the internet for a new source of revenue.   With this in mind the creation of the referral code has come into use by companies.   The referral code is often an alphanumeric series that is keyed specifically towards the client who is recruiting new consumers that they distribute to those new consumers to enter upon purchase or visit.  

Requiring a purchase to be made in order to activate a referral code offers an added pressure to the new client to buy since the existing client is encouraging a purchase so that they can benefit from their activated referral code.
