Coping WIth Burnout

by sharonhh
It happens to all of us. One day you just don't feel like writing any more. For a day, a week, a month or even longer, the profession that you rushed to embrace suddenly seems charmless. You feel tired, drained and mentally depleted, but you've still got to make a living. What do you do to recharge your batteries and get interested again?

Some of the things I have tried include knowing when to give up on writing and walking away from the computer. Instead of writing I can read a book, go for a walk, head to the beach, play with my daughter or have a nap. These are all things that are guaranteed to get my mind off the job for a while at least.

All of the best advice on burnout centres on recognising the signs - stress, tiredness, etc - and on changing the circumstances quickly, by taking a break somehow. What do you do when you face burnout?

You either have it or you don't.
And when you don't have it.... writing can be a real chore.
If I am not in the right mind set to write... I don't
other wise what I write will be something that no one
would want to read.

I go do something else until I am ready to write.
Some times it may take longer than others.

Your right.... we all face burnout at one time or another.
Thanks for the post

I have an article that has been draft for almost a month. I brought it up to complete it a few minutes ago but left it again. Apparently I am not yet ready to do the job well.

I will finish that writing at the appropriate time.

This happens to all writers except those who write junk.

So far, so good but i also sometimes worry I run out on subjects to write about. I try to vary different things during the day. When I am fed up writing i do some graphics. Or i read and/or visit other sites. I often find inspirations and ideas by doing so, from which i make a note. Other than that I force myself to go to music practice even when i have no time.

@Paula... I never run out of topics.. ever
I have hundreds of ideas and while I am writing a post I will get more ideas
All of them are written out for a later time.

Topics are never a problem
Doing it is my problem.

It is sometimes the energy when you on a burn out that is drained, mentally, physically, that your system needs a break from everything an escape that helps you relax and get back the strength to move forward to something new. I know it is hard, I have been through a burnout myself, and now I am in another household crisis, but when I come on site you guys give me inspiration to hold on and not to give up. I have an escape that I enjoy is to listen to relaxing, meditating music, I go into my silence and pray for hope, I also enjoy playing games that gives my brain workout not to loose memory which it is said, it is a good exercise. I love to go window shopping but temptations to spend is there and right now I am drained financially because I can't seem to find a employment outside my house since I have lost my job almost 20 months ago. I just came back from an interview, it looks hopeful but I have to wait for answer sometime soon. You need money to travel back and forth for these jobs, whether it is gas or by city transport it is dilemma for me, but I have faith that some sort of blessing will come my way and it will be resolved. Also right now, my husband is with Canada Postal strike 2 weeks now and it is not resolved yet. When strike is around no pay. I empathize with Sharonhh. Thank you so much for this message, I hope you will overcome it soon, I will pray for you. God Bless You All, Maria
