There are so many mistakes that people make when doing SEO. The level of frustration has increased since the Panda changes have occurred. The SEO game has become even more unpredictable but that isn't to say that everything about the search engines is absolutely clueless, but it is to say that the level of mistakes have increased exponentially. Here are 4 specific mistakes that people make when performing SEO.
Relevant Search Content
When you are putting content on your website, you have to know exactly what you are writing about and who you are writing to. If the title of your blog post or your article is not search engine friendly then you are not going to get the targeted search engine traffic you expect. Good keyword research through a keyword tool or platform will help your site or blog gain much more exposure than random writing.
Filling Tags
Whenever people place content on an article site or social bookmarking site, most people don't really pay attention to the tags. Most people feel like they are a waste of time or the tags don't mean anything when this is very far from the truth.
When you are using the tags, you have the opportunity to use other keywords that you want to rank for and give your content an extra kick. Depending on the extent of your keyword research, most of the time it could be a waste of time. However, if you have good relevant keywords to place in the tags, then your site will do much better.
Bad Keyword Research
The truth is that most online marketers don't know how to properly perform keyword research to help their site gain better exposure on the search engines. In addition to this, the information concerning the subject is a bit over engineered. Nothing about the internet is over complicated at all. I don't know if it's because most marketers are trying to look as if they have more information than the next man or whatever, but the fact is that keyword research is simple and should be simple.
All you do is use quotations to find out how many sites are occupying a particular keyword or phrase you are trying to rank for. As long as the keyword has 5,000 sites or less, you will rank pretty well in that word or phrase. I know that the results are not set in stone or absolute, but it's something that you can use to gain a basis of reference.
Bad Backlinks
I know there are many so called SEO companies or backlinking services that promise you the world and tell you that they are going to get your site ranked up to the stars. The fact is, Google looks at relevant sites linking back to your site. Now I'm not talking about the social bookmarking sites, I'm talking about sites regular sites that you exchange links with.
For example, if you have a clothing website then you will need to connect with another clothing website or a shoe site not a restaurant site. There are people who think that they are suppose to link with any site and their website is going to shoot up the rankings. This is not true at all. You cannot exchange links with anyone or just list a bunch of websites on your blog or site. You need to have quality backlinks to your site, otherwise, your site will get knocked down the search engine rankings and your traffic will suffer in the process.
